It's been a while since I wrote my last English article so once again a very warm welcome to all my English readers. Today I am going to discuss very special occasion of worshipping Lord Shiva.

This time is very very auspicious for doing any kind of Shiva worship to get his blessings.
According to the Hindu almanac currently we are in the month of Margashirsh which is mainly devoted to Lord Vishnu. Many of us know that Margashirsh Purnima is also known as Datta Jayanti or Dattatreya Jayanti.
But this day is also very pious for worshipping Lord Shiva as it gives immense benefits stated by Lord Shiva himself. It is as good as it is worshipping the Lord on Shivratri.
In Shiv Mahapuran there is a instance when Lord Shiva told Sri Vishnu and Brahmaji that he manifested himself as pillar of fire or Jyothirmay stambh in the month of margashirsha during the Ardra Constellation, which falls between November and December.
A person who sees Lord Shiva along with Devi Parvati on full moon day of Margashirsha month I.e. Margashirsha Poornima or the first day (Pratipada Tithi) coinciding with Ardra Nakshatra and also worships the phallic emblem (Shivlinga) or the idol he gets the blessing of Lord Shiva and gets dearer to him than his own son Kartikeya.
On this day just by mere vision of shivlinga one gets benefited spiritually and if the person also worships Lord Shiva then the benefit is so magnified that it is not possible to describe it in words.
Arudra Darshan
In many South Indian states this occasion is celebrated or observed as Arudra Darshan during the Ardra constellation in Margazhi month (Tamil name for Margashirsha month) in which lord Shiva has been worshipped in his dancing form: The Nataraja.
In ancient scripts it is also mentioned that if Ardra Nakshatra falls on the day of Chaturdashi Tithi I.e. on the 14th day of dark fortnight of lunar month recitation of “Om” syllable gives manifold results.
On this day one should offer prayers, chant Panchakshari mantra, Mahamrityunjaya mantra, recite dwadash Jyotirling stotra on Rudraksha rosary (mala) and offer ordinary as well as sacrificial gifts to Lord Shiva early in the morning.

The place where the shivlinga is manifested is known as the Linga sthan. The emblem is so huge that no one can see it's beginning as well as it's ending. But for the convenience of people it is shortened so that people can easily worship it and see it.
This emblem not only fulfills the worldly desires but also provides liberation and salvation. The glory of this emblem is such that whoever view it, touch it or meditate upon it will be free from the cycle of life and death and will never get birth again.
The place where the mountain like shivlinga appeared and it looked like a mountain of fire is known as Arunachal that is a rudy mountain.
Many holy places developed in its vicinity and the glory of this place is such that the people who takes birth or dies here will directly get salvation ( moksha ) after death. This pilgrimage will be considered as the greatest among all the pilgrimages.
At some point of time we all face up’s and down’s in our life but to put up a fight to overcome tough times we all need inner strength.Try to focus on lord Shiva on this very day your devotion will maximize the results and the lord will give us the strength and show the path.
We are living in the Kalyuga but still the goal of every soul is to achieve salvation sooner or later.
So we should pray to Lord Shiva during this pious constellation for fulfillment of ultimate desire of our soul.

पाठकों आज हमें इस लेख में मार्गशीर्ष पूर्णिमा और प्रतिपदा तिथि के बारे में बात करेंगे। यूं तो सभी लोग यह जानते हैं की मार्गशीर्ष पूर्णिमा दत्तात्रेय जी की जयंती है जिसे देश भर में मनाया जाता है लेकिन इस दिन पर शिवलिंग का दर्शन करना और शिव पार्वती जी की पूजा करने का बहुत पुण्य मिलता है।

महाशिवरात्रि व्रत
भगवान शिव अपने लिंग स्वरूप में सबसे पहले आर्द्रा नक्षत्र से युक्त मार्गशीर्ष महीने की पूर्णिमा तिथि के दिन प्रकट हुए थे उस समय यह लिंग अग्नि के पहाड़ जैसा था इसलिए यह लिंग को ज्योति स्तंभ या ज्योतिरमय लिंग भी कहा जाता है।
यह लिंग आकार में इतना बड़ा था कि स्वयं भगवान विष्णु और ब्रह्मा जी के लिए भी इस लिंग के आदि और अंत का पता लगाना असंभव था। कालांतर में यह लिंग का आकार छोटा हो गया ताकि लोग इसका दर्शन एवं पूजन आसानी से कर सके। अग्नि के पहाड़ समान यह लिंग जहां पर प्रकट हुआ था वह स्थान आगे चलकर अरुणाचल कहलाया।

आर्द्रा नक्षत्र से युक्त मार्गशीर्ष पूर्णिमा या प्रतिपदा तिथि को माता पार्वती के साथ शिवलिंग के दर्शन जरूर करना चाहिए। इस दिन जो भी व्यक्ति शिवलिंग के दर्शन करता है वह भगवान शिव के लिए कार्तिकेय से भी अधिक प्यारा हो जाता है ऐसा स्वयं भगवान शिव ने विष्णु जी एवं ब्रह्मा जी को उपदेश दीया है।
शिवलिंग का दर्शन स्पर्श और ध्यान करने से मनुष्य की सभी इच्छाएं पूर्ण हो जाती हैं और मनुष्य को मोक्ष प्राप्त होता है। हमारे जीवन में उतार-चढ़ाव आते रहते हैं जिनसे उबरने के लिए हमें आंतरिक शक्ति की आवश्यकता होती है। भगवान शिव का ध्यान करने से हमें यह आंतरिक शक्ति मिलती है।
जिन लोगों का विवाह नहीं हो पा रहा है या जो अन्य किसी समस्या से पीड़ित है उन्हें भी इस दिन शिवलिंग के दर्शन करने चाहिए। शिवलिंग के दर्शन मात्र से ही मनुष्य को भगवान शिव की कृपा प्राप्त होती है और साथ में अगर रुद्राक्ष की माला पर शिव पंचाक्षरी या षडाक्षरी मंत्र का 108 बार जप कर लिया जाए तो उसका इतना पुण्य प्राप्त होता है कि जिसे शब्दों में बताना संभव नहीं है
शिव पंचाक्षरी मंत्र इस प्रकार है:

ऊपर दिए गए मंत्र में ॐ का संपुट लगा देने से यह मंत्र शिव षडाक्षरी मंत्र हो जाता है।
भारत के दक्षिणी राज्यों में यह दिवस उत्सव की तरह मनाया जाता है और इस अवसर पर भगवान के नटराज स्वरूप की पूजा की जाती है। इस दिन पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ भगवान शिव में ध्यान लगाना चाहिए हर आत्मा का लक्ष्य यानी मोक्ष पाने की कामना करनी चाहिए।
